Video report【Minister for Reconstruction】: Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake after Eight Years (March 2019)

post date : 2019.03.12

Nearly eight years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, a disaster of unprecedented scale that resulted in the deaths of over 20,000 people and the destruction of over 120,000 homes. The reconstruction of homes in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami has been proceeding, and is expected to be mostly complete by the end of March 2019.  Most of the manufacturing facilities for industries in the three prefectures affected most severely have been rebuilt as well. However, there are still issues remaining when it comes to recovery in areas affected by the nuclear disaster and dealing with misinformation after the nuclear disaster, and new issues which arise as recovery progresses.

The FPCJ invited Mr. Hiromichi WATANABE, Minister for Reconstruction, to talk about the current situation of and future outlook for reconstruction.

The briefing had a total of 21 participants, including journalists from China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and South Korea.
