[TMG] Enter the Metaverse and Experience an Amazing New Tokyo! The Virtual Edo-Tokyo Project!

SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, bringing together Tokyo’s innovation creators to share their solutions for urban growth and sustainability, is scheduled to begin this spring. To lead up to this event, which promotes Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo (SusHi Tech Tokyo) and the creation of sustainable new value, Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to launch the "Virtual Edo-Tokyo Project", using the metaverse to bring the wonders of Tokyo to the world.

Opening 100 days before the start of SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, The Virtual Edo-Tokyo Project will begin on Thursday, January 18. The launch will feature Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and MATSUMURA Sayuri, who will introduce the metaverse space filled with Tokyo's attractions, followed by a virtual speech from Governor Koike via her metaverse avatar. We hope you will join us for this fun-filled event.


1. Overview
Dates: From Thursday, January 18, 2024 until Monday, February 12, 2024
Venue: The Cluster Metaverse Platform

The Metaverse may be entered from Thursday, Jan 18, around 6:00pm The free app is required, and can be downloaded via the URL:

Main Content:
・To promote to upcoming SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 event in April and May, advance reports about the event’s highlights and past achievements will be issued
・The diverse culture and many attractions of Edo-Tokyo will be on display through much of the content, including a virtual walking tour around Edo’s central symbol, Edo Castle
・Visitors of all ages will be able to participate in activities like work experience simulations

2. Virtual Events
Several events detailed below will give guests a taste of the unique metaverse experience.

● Opening Event
The opening will feature trend-setting performing artists Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and TV personality MATSUMURA Sayuri. These celebrities will introduce the metaverse virtual space and talk about the events in which they will perform. Tokyo Governor Koike will deliver an opening message via her virtual avatar.

Date & Time: Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 8:00pm until 8:45pm
Presenters:  Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (performing artist),MATSUMURA Sayuri (TV personality, model and actress), and others.
Program:      Opening remarks from the Governor’s virtual avatarPerformers to introduce the metaverse virtual spaceAnnouncement of events by performers, etc.


● Main Events

“TOKYO FASHION TALK”
Fashion leader Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will lead a multi-faceted discussion with other designers about the changing and evolving characteristics of Tokyo’s youth fashion.Participants will also have an opportunity to experience the virtual space together with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and others.
   Date & Time:  Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 7:00pm until 8:10pm
   Venue:          Stage Area
   Presenters:      Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, IIJIMA Kumiko (stylist and costume designer), KATO Ryo (actor and entertainer), and others
   Program:         Discussion on fashion
                  Virtual space experience with presenters, live video, etc.

“MUSIC LIVE”
An energetic live show by musicians currently active in virtual spaces, performing their recent songs.
   Date & Time:    Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 8:00pm until 8:30pm
   Venue:       Industry Area
   Performers:    Asano Ruri (Vtuber), MaiR (Vtuber)
   Program:        Live musical performance by Vtubers, etc.

“TOKYO QUIZ CHALLENGE”
Delve into the appeal of Tokyo’s industries through this fun quiz.
   Date & Time: Saturday, February 3, 2025 from 8:00pm to 8:30pm 
   Venue:       Industry Area
   Presenters:    Cyber Girl Siro (Vtuber), Kakyoin Chieri (Vtuber)
   Program:     Quiz on Tokyo’s industries, firework display, etc.

“UNCOVERING THE APPEAL OF VR PERFORMERS”
 Viewers can experience performances by dancers and calligraphers active in virtual spaces.  A discussion session with the MCs will explore the appeal behind VR performances.
In addition, participants will have the chance to experience the virtual space together with MATSUMURA Sayuri and friends.
       Date & Time:  Friday, February 9, 2024 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm 
   Venue:       Stage Area
   Presenters:     yoikami (VR actor and performer), BISEN AOYAGI (calligrapher and VR Japanese caligraphy artist), MUKAI Satoshi (member of the comedy group ”Panther”), MATSUMURA Sayuri, MINASE Yuzu (company founder)
   Program:      VR performance video, virtual space experience with presenters, etc.

● Events for Supporters

Every Wednesday, a live webcast will be held to show supporters and visitors around the metaverse virtual space. Further details will be announced on our dedicated website.

 


3. Regarding the Interactive Exhibits and Other Events at “SusHi Tech Square”

During the operational period of this project, exhibitions and other events where visitors can experience Virtual Edo-Tokyo will be held at “SusHi Tech Square(3-8-3 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku)” located in front of Yurakucho station.

● Interactive Exhibits
 1 Virtual Edo-Tokyo recreation experience
   Experience an immersive environment using a large-scale three-sided display.
 2 Edo Castle AR
   Through the use of smartphones and other devices, visitors can experience a diorama of Edo Castle as well as the castle interior.

● Interactive Events
 Enjoy a simulated experience in the metaverse while listening to explanation from guides.
 1 Virtual Edo tour
    Date & Time: Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm
    Program:   While touring Edo Castle, visitors can learn about Edo cuisine, kimonos, and other interesting topics.
  2 Tokyo work experience in the metaverse
    Date & Time: Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm
    Program:   Parents and children alike can learn together by experiencing three different jobs, including acting as a bus guide.
