The Future of Japan-US Relations Under the New Biden Administration (Dr. Mieko Nakabayashi, Professor, School of Social Sciences, Waseda University)

post date : 2021.02.19

Inaugurated on January 20, US President Joe Biden has demonstrated his intent to repair the deep divisions in American society by establishing four key issues for his administration: COVID-19, economic recovery, racial equity, and climate change. While indicating plans for international cooperation with a return to the Paris Agreement, he has also shown that he will continue taking a hardline stance against China, which the US is said to be in a new cold war with. Prime Minister Suga has announced that he plans to cooperate closely with the Biden administration, and further strengthen the Japan-US alliance. How will Japan and the US build cooperative relationships not only for security issues, but for trade issues and the COVID-19 pandemic as well?

The FPCJ has invited Dr. Mieko Nakabayashi, a professor at Waseda University, to discuss the future of Japan-US relations.
