Video report: US-China Struggle for Technological Hegemony and Japanese Economic Security Policy (Dr. Kazuto Suzuki, Professor, Graduate School of Public Policy, The University of Tokyo)

post date : 2021.09.15

The antagonism between the US and China has been growing due to their power struggle over advanced technology, in fields ranging from IT to space technology. As discussions surrounding economic security policy grow more active, for the first time the Japanese government explicitly included mentions of “ensuring economic security” in the Basic Policy on Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform 2021 and Growth Strategy announced in June this year. How will this intense power struggle between the US and China develop going forward? What policy and strategies should Japan implement to take advantage of its strengths?

The FPCJ invited Dr. Kazuto Suzuki, a professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Public Policy and expert on international political economics, to discuss this topic.

The briefing had a total of 52 participants including foreign journalists from China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, and the US.
