Video report: Tokyo’s Efforts Towards Society 5.0, a Super-Smart Society

In August 2019, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) established the Tokyo Data Highway Basic Strategy, a network strategy using the 5G next-generation telecommunications standard, and began to develop the fastest mobile internet network in the world. TMG is aiming to accelerate digitalization in Tokyo, including ICT education, telemedicine, and autonomous driving by spreading high-speed mobile internet such as 5G that will contribute to solving social issues and increasing economic growth. In December 2019, TMG announced the Strategic Vision for Tokyo’s Future, the base for the long-term strategy to indicate the path Tokyo should follow, and set out the Smart Tokyo strategy as Tokyo’s version of Society 5.0. 

 

Mr. Miyasaka Manabu, Vice Governor of Tokyo, who is leading this project, spoke about the vision for a new Tokyo this strategy aims for, looking beyond Tokyo 2020 and about Tokyo’s initiatives to create a super-smart society Smart Tokyo in the future. 

 

The briefing had a total of 28 participants including journalists from Brazil, China, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, and the USA.
