Midsummer Manufacturing Event

「Monozukuri - A Celebration of Japanese Artisanal Techniques 2023」
August 4-6 at the Tokyo International Forum (Free Admission)

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold “Monozukuri - A Celebration of Japanese Artisanal Techniques 2023” at the Tokyo International Forum from August 4 (Fri.) to 6 (Sun.), 2023. Members of the general public will be able to experience the allure of traditional artisanal techniques and manufacturing skills and techniques.

Craftsmen from the fields of “clothing,” “food,” “living,” and “Manufacturing” will gather in Tokyo to showcase their remarkable craftsmanship and skills. In addition to demonstrations on stage (18 types in total), individual booths are offering a hands-on program (more than 90 types in total) where visitors can actually try their hand at making things with the assistance of artisans, and outstanding works by artisans will also be on exhibit.

The “Youth Event” area will be holding an event at which visitors can try cutting-edge technologies for themselves with help from students of technical high schools in Metropolitan Tokyo. In addition, a “Tea Room” has been set up at the venue where visitors can experience the tea ceremony and flower-arranging and watch Japanese dance and koto [Japanese harp] performances by high school students.

This year’s 3 festival supporters are celebrity and actress Ms. Suzu Yamanouchi, model and actress Ms. Asuka Kijima, and actor Mr. Co-ki Yamashita. They will be working together with the artisans to liven up each day’s events on stage.

This festival is a hands-on manufacturing event that attracts approximately 30,000 visitors each year, and this year marks the 8th time it has been held. This is an event for all ages who want to experience the skills of artisans up close and in person. English interpreting staff are also available so that foreign visitors can enjoy the event to the fullest.

This is a midsummer festival of craftsmanship that can be enjoyed with all of the senses as visitors watch and experience traditional Japanese techniques. We look forward to seeing you at the venue.
