The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and the Japan Intellectual Support Network in Agricultural Sciences (JISNAS), announces a symposium featuring Dr. Cary Fowler, 2024 World Food Prize laureate and Special Envoy for Global Food Security at the US Department of State.
The symposium, titled "Dr. Fowler's Journey to Preserve Genetic Diversity and New Mission for Africa's Adapted Crops and Soils," will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:30. The event will be held in a hybrid format at the Yayoi Auditorium, University of Tokyo, and via Zoom webinar.
Dr. Fowler will share his pioneering work in preserving crop genetic diversity, including the establishment of the Global Crop Diversity Trust and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The symposium will also highlight the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) initiative, focusing on unlocking the potential of diverse, climate-resilient crops and soil management in Africa.
