The Hiroshima Prefectural Government hosted the 4th Hiroshima Junior International Forum from Tuesday August 20th through Friday August 23rd, including at the International Conference Center Hiroshima in Hiroshima City. The goal of the event is to spread a message of peace overseas, deepen mutual understanding, and train the next generation human resources while advancing Hiroshima as an international hub for peace.

During the forum, the participants visited the Peace Memorial Museum, listened to the testimony of an A-bomb victim Ms. Keiko Ogura in English, 2 keynote lectures by Mr. Naoto Hisajima, Director-General of the Disarmament, Non-proliferation and Science Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto, Director of the Division for Prosperity at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and had group discussions regarding “Nuclear Abolition” and “Reconstruction and Peace-building.” Then all of the participants created and presented “the Hiroshima Declaration” and “Action Plan” at the end.
The Hiroshima Declaration includes the challenges and solutions toward nuclear disarmament and peace-building, as well as the role of Hiroshima and the youth in this process. Through this declaration, the participants hope to spread a message of peace overseas.
