■ “SYN LIGHT DANCE IN TOKYO”
Project proposed by Rhizomatiks
An urban public art event showcasing Tokyo’s uniqueness.
This project aims to create an experimental art space that combines innovations in communications technology with the latest media technology resulting from research and development by Rhizomatiks, the company responsible for developing the production technology and AR and video projection elements featured in the Tokyo 2020 Games presentation at the closing ceremony in Rio 2016. It will feature live events and new hands-on interactive installations of light and sound that make full use of the hosting venue and surrounding urban environment.
■ “World Folk Culture Festival - MATSURI 2020-”
Project proposed by Japan Folk Performing Arts Association
A festival that brings together intangible cultural heritage from across the globe.
Gathering together traditional culture and performing arts that have been passed down the generations in various parts of the world, this project will seek to communicate the significance of cultural diversity and coexistence through intercommunication, helping to ensure that culture is passed on to future generations. Performers from Japan’s Tohoku region and from all five continents will be invited to take part, amplifying its message on the value of intangible cultural heritage.
■ “DANCE TRUCK TOKYO”
Project proposed by JAPAN DANCE TRUCK ASSOCIATION
Mobile dance performances traveling throughout Tokyo, directed and coordinated by choreographer and dancer Yoko Higashino.
This mobile dance project will make full use of the freedom and flexibility of movement offered by trucks. Curated by Yoko Higashino, Tsuyoshi Shirai, and Yukio Suzuki—all renowned leaders of the Japanese contemporary dance scene—it will feature cutting edge artists from a range of fields. Site-specific dance trucks will be deployed in various settings, including the Tama region, the special wards at the heart of the metropolis, and Tokyo’s islands, with the aim of offering new platforms that link communities to performing arts.
■ “TOKYO SENTO Festival 2020”
Project proposed by TOKYO SENTO Festival 2020 Executive Committee
Turning sento into a stage for showcasing the Japanese art scene and forging links between people in 2020.
Sento—public baths—have traditionally been a place for Japanese people to relax and strengthen their
connections with other members of their community. This art project seeks to tell the world about Japan’s unique sento culture and foster a sense of excitement about the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games among as many people as possible. It will feature interactive events involving a diverse array of Japan’s leading artists, creating the coolest art in the capital’s hottest settings! With Japan’s traditional sento culture as the backdrop, this festival will showcase the freshest voices in Japanese arts and culture to the world and cultivate heartwarming exchanges between individuals.
■ “masayume”
Project proposed by [ mé ]

Reacknowledging our own existence as both public and private selves, this project will create a scene that questions anew our feelings and the mysteries of our existence in the skies over Tokyo. The model for the face to be projected into the sky will be sought from across the globe.
