New census shows Japan’s population dropping

A crowd of commuters at Shinjuku station on February 26th, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. According to figures from the latest national census Japan's population was 127,110,047 as of October 1st, 2015. Thus was a drop of 947,305 since the previous census in 2010 and was the first time that the number has declined since the first survey was conducted in 1920.
