Report: Fellowship Program: Mr. Jonathan Broder, Senior Editor for Defense and Foreign Policy, Congressional Quarterly
post date : 2013.12.06
Mr. Jonathan Broder, Senior Editor for Defense and Foreign Policy of the Congressional Quarterly of the US, visited Japan from October 13 to 23, 2013 under the FPCJ Fellowship Program. The Congressional Quarterly, a publisher reporting only on the US Congress, is well known as a media organization that can have a direct influence on the US decision making, because its main readers are US lawmakers and opinion leaders.
Mr. Broder covered Japan's security. He met with government officials and experts in Tokyo and visited the Okinawan island of Ishigaki near the Senkaku Islands to interview local municipality officials and fishermen and also to tour the facility of the Japan Coast Guard on the island.
The CQ Weekly of November 11 carried his long article titled "Between Pivot and a Hard Place" (the web version is only available to subscribers). The article points out that Japan and other US allies in Asia are becoming less confident in the US commitment to them.
