As part of the 2023-2024 FPCJ Fellowship Program, Ms. Laura Kelly, the foreign policy reporter for The Hill, visited Japan from February 25 to March 2. The Hill is a daily paper and online media company founded in Washington D.C. in 1994, and is one of the most important media specializing in politics in Washington.

In the second half of the program, she visited Kyushu and Okinawa, covering the Kagoshima Coast Guard Office of the 10th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters as well as interviewing the mayor of Ishigaki.

After the program, Ms. Kelly mentioned how she appreciated the opportunity to interview Japanese government officials and experts, and, commenting on her visit to the Kagoshima Coast Guard Office, said, “It was very valuable to be able to see the interior of a large patrol vessel and speak with the captain.”
