Video report: Japanese Foreign Policy in 2021 (Dr. Ken Jimbo, Professor, Keio University)

post date : 2021.01.15

With still no end in sight to the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 began. What foreign policy will Japan implement in response to the new Biden administration commencing in the US on January 20? Will relations with China and South Korea improve, despite there being no sign of solving the issues of the Senkaku Islands or former wartime laborers from the Korean Peninsula? How will Japan cooperate with Australia and India on the shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific, and with the EU as it prioritizes green and digital policies?

The FPCJ invited Dr. Ken Jimbo, a professor at Keio University and expert in security and foreign policy, to discuss Japanese foreign policy in 2021 as the new Suga administration moves to deal with these and other issues.

The briefing had a total of 49 participants including journalists from Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Russia, South Korea, UK and the US.
