Video report: Post-Abe and Domestic Japanese Politics (Dr. Yu UCHIYAMA, Professor, University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences)

With Prime Minister Shinzo Abe having announced his resignation, the longest administration in Japan’s history is ending after seven years and eight months. In mid-September, after the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan’s leadership election and the election of the prime minister in the National Diet, there will be a new prime minister and a new cabinet.

The FPCJ invited Dr. Yu Uchiyama, an expert in modern Japanese politics and a professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, to hold a briefing just ahead of the LDP leadership election and look back at this unprecedented long administration, as well as discussing the policies of the candidates for LDP president, the outlook for the election, the challenges the new prime minister will face, and the future of domestic politics in Japan.

 

The briefing had a total of  38 participants including journalists from China, Denmark, France, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, and the USA.
