PRESS BRIEFING

Trends in Japanese Arctic Research

■Overview

Due to climate change, the environment surrounding the Arctic has changed significantly and will continue to change, affecting socio-economic activities at a global scale, not to mention the ongoing melting of sea ice and glaciers and the impact on weather and marine ecosystems.

On the occasion of the 3rd Arctic Science Ministerial (ASM3) — to be held in Japan on May 8 and 9, 2021 — Hokkaido University's Arctic Research Center (ARC), the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR)'s Arctic Environment Research Center, and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) Global Environment Division's Arctic Environmental Change Research Center will hold a press briefing session for domestic and overseas media. We will introduce activities and results from research related to the Arctic region that our institutions have jointly undertaken.
