Japan’s Role in Multilateral Economic Cooperation—Ahead of the Osaka G20 Summit (Prof. Shujiro Urata, Waseda University)

post date : 2019.06.03

With the growing impact on the global economy of the increasingly tense trade war between the US and China, the OECD ministerial meeting which ended on May 23 failed to mention the importance of free trade in the shared statement released, for the third year in a row. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is planning to promote free trade and global growth through innovation at the G20 Osaka Summit to be held near the end of June, and it remains to be seen how Japan, as the host country, will be able to send a strong message of cooperation among participating countries to the world while also avoiding confrontation with the US.

The FPCJ has invited Dr. Shujiro Urata, a professor at Waseda University and an expert in international economics, to discuss this topic.
