Mr. Hitoshi Tanaka
Chairman of the Institute for International Strategy at the Japan Research Institute, Ltd.

On December 26, Japan had a new administration led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, president of the LDP. Mr. Abe wants to travel to the U.S. for a summit meeting with President Obama as early as possible, because he considers the Japan-US alliance as the axis of Japan’s foreign and security policy. Still, besides Japan-US relations, the new administration faces a pile of diplomatic issues, including Japan-China relations strained by the Senkaku issue, recovery under the new Park Geun-Hye administration of Japan-ROK relations, which had been worsened by President Lee Myung-bak’s landin on Takeshima, and the handling of North Korea, which succeeded in launching a de facto long-range ballistic missile in mid-December.

FPCJ has invited Mr. Hitoshi Tanaka, former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Institute for International Strategy at the Japan Research Institute, Ltd., to talk about the foreign policy that the Abe Administration should pursue.

Date & Time: January 8 (Tue), 2013, 14:00-

Place: Foreign Press Center/Japan (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)

Language: English only

Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also attend the briefing as observers (admission free).
