Japan’s Defense and Security Strategy (Mr. ONODERA Itsunori, Chair of LDP Research Commission on Security and Former Minister of Defense)

post date : 2024.04.23

One of the results of Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio’s state visit to the US, the first official visit to the US by a Japanese prime minister in nine years, was the release of the Global Partners for the Future joint leader’s statement. The statement positions Japan and the US as global partners based on a relationship of trust and friendship and reaffirms that the Japan-US alliance is the cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. The statement also indicates a stance of upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law by further strengthening defense and security cooperation between Japan and the US.

The FPCJ has invited House of Representatives Member ONODERA Itsunori, who served three terms as the Minister of Defense and is the current chair of the LDP Research Commission on Security, to discuss Japan’s defense and security strategy.

★This will be a hybrid briefing, with participation in person possible at the FPCJ Conference Room, in addition to an online livestream via Zoom webinar.

FPCJ supporting members and embassy representatives may participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).
