The Rise of the Global South and the Future of Japanese Diplomacy（Professor Yuichi Hosoya, Faculty of Law, Keio University）

With growing global division amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Hamas, emerging and developing countries of the Global South such as India, Brazil, and South Africa are demonstrating greater presence in the international community. The Global South is projected to account for two-thirds of the world’s population in 2050, with a total nominal GDP greater than that of the US or China, and they will be vital in solving various challenges facing the world such as food issues, energy transition, and climate change.
While providing support appropriate to the circumstances of each country, how will Japan strengthen relations with these countries and contribute to the peace and stability of the international community under the shared value of the rule of law?
The FPCJ has invited Dr. Yuichi Hosoya, a professor at the Keio University Faculty of Law and an expert in international political history and Japanese diplomacy, to discuss the importance of Japan’s support and collaboration with the Global South, and what role Japan should play.
