post date : 2021.07.12

At the G7 Summit held in England this June, addressing climate change was one of the major topics discussed. At the summit, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga stated that he had made climate change a top priority and implemented various initiatives since becoming prime minister, and declared his intent to aim for carbon neutrality by 2050 and to promote local initiatives and innovation taking advantage of Japan’s technological capabilities. He also announced that Japan will provide 6.5 trillion yen in public and private funding to developing countries for climate change measures in the five years leading up to 2025.

The FPCJ invited Mr. Keichi Ono, the Director-General/Assistant Minister of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss Japanese measures to fight climate change and its international contributions.

The briefing had a total of 29 participants including journalists from China, Denmark, Germany, Singapore, and US.
