Video report: G20 Osaka Summit—Strengthening Free Trade and Data Free Flow with Trust (Prof. Fukunari KIMURA, Keio Univ.)
post date : 2019.06.25
There is significant interest in how efforts to strengthen the system of global trade to be free and fair will be debated at the G20 Osaka Summit at the end of June, in response to recent protectionist trends. In particular, there has been growing interest in creating rules for the free flow of digital data across national borders, which is a new challenge for the digital economy. At the recent G20 Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy, the Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) concept promoted by Prime Minister Abe was adopted, and as part of a new discussion framework called the “Osaka Track” in the G20 Summit, efforts will be made to reach agreement on the creation of international rules on e-commerce and other issues.
The FPCJ invited Dr. Fukunari Kimura, a professor at Keio University and expert in international trade theory, to discuss these topics ahead of the G20 Summit.
The briefing had a total of 27 participants, including 12 journalists from China, South Korea, Singapore, Italy, Germany, Russia, and U.K.
