Video Report: Solving Problems in the Construction Industry in an Era of Declining Birthrate and Aging Population with DX(Professor Kazuyoshi Tateyama, Research Organization of Science and Technology, Ritsumeikan University)
post date : 2024.03.19
With revisions to work style reform laws taking effect in April 2024, overtime work in the construction industry will be capped and penalties put in place, so it will no longer be possible to make workers work as much overtime as they have up until now. The construction industry’s chronic reliance on long working hours has long been pointed out as a problem, and as it stands construction workers do not necessarily even have two days off a week, which is common sense in other industries. In order to regulate overtime work, increased efficiency is vital, and with the labor shortage due to the declining birthrate and aging population hitting the construction industry particularly hard, there are high hopes for the benefits of digital transformation (DX).
Dr. Kazuyoshi Tateyama is a professor at the Ritsumeikan University Research Organization of Science and Technology who researches methods to implement ICT to increase efficiency in the construction industry, thereby increasing productivity and improving safety.
The FPCJ has invited him to discuss initiatives to improve the long working hours and chronic labor shortage in the construction industry using DX and ICT, the significance of those initiatives, and how they could become examples for countries around the world.
The briefing was attended by journalists from Brazil, France, China, and Singapore.
