Video Report: Japan-Taiwan Relations Considering the Results of Taiwan’s Presidential Election (Dr. Madoka Fukuda, Professor, Department of Global Politics, Faculty of Law, HOSEI University )

post date : 2024.01.25

On January 13, 2024, Taiwan held a presidential election, and Lai Ching-te of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party was elected. With China, which maintains the "One China" principle, engaging in increased military activity around Taiwan, issues surrounding the possibility of an armed conflict in the Taiwan Strait have been brought to the fore, and the eyes of the world are on future developments considering the outcome of this Taiwanese presidential election, which could have a major impact on the security situation in East Asia.

The FPCJ has invited Dr. Madoka Fukuda, an expert on international politics and Chinese diplomacy who has actively commented on the Taiwanese presidential election and China-Taiwan relations, to discuss the future of Japan-Taiwan relations considering the results of the election, as well as discussing actions by the international community to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The briefing was attended by journalists from Taiwan, China, US, France, Belgium and Brazil.
