This year will mark nine years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the TEPCO Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. This is also the year of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which have been billed as the Recovery Olympics.

The Olympic torch relay is planned to start from Fukushima Prefecture on March 26, and excitement should continue to grow as the opening of the Games in July approaches. Commenting on this situation, Mr. Masao Uchibori, Governor of Fukushima Prefecture and the leader of the recovery effort, stressed, “I would like to pass on our experiences and legacy through the Games, and connect them to the hopes and dreams of Fukushima residents.”

 

The FPCJ invited Governor Uchibori to speak about the state of recovery from the disaster and nuclear accident, including measures to keep memories of the disaster alive and to deal with the negative perception that persists in Japan and worldwide, and about his feelings towards the Recovery Olympics.

 

The briefing had a total of 27 participants including journalists from  China, France,Germany, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.
