Video Report: How to Respond to the Trump Tariffs (Dr. Keiko Ito, Professor, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Chiba University)
post date : 2025.04.18
The US’ second Trump administration has shaken the world with its tariff policies. In February this year, they announced a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum products imported into the US. The administration has also indicated it will announce further tariffs on imports such as automobiles, lumber, and semiconductors. What response should Japan take in the face of new tariffs implemented by the Trump administration?
The FPCJ has invited Dr. Keiko Ito, an expert on economic policy and professor at the Chiba University Graduate School of Social Sciences, to discuss how to respond to the Trump tariffs, including how the tariffs on steel, aluminum, automobiles and more will affect Japanese businesses and the economy, measures to prepare ahead of their implementation, and how Japan should navigate these frequently changing tariff policies without being overly affected.
The briefing was attended by journalists from China, France, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and USA.
