The Future of the TPP and Japan’s Response, as China and Taiwan Apply (Dr. Fukunari Kimura, Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University)
post date : 2021.10.15
In September 2021, both China and Taiwan applied to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Also, the first talks were held to discuss the UK’s bid to join the TPP, which would make it the first new partner since the TPP began with 11 countries in November 2018. With increasing discussion of economic security in Japan, how will Japan deal with this issue as the TPP chair this year?
The FPCJ has invited international economics expert Dr. Fukunari Kimura, a professor at the Keio University Faculty of Economics, to discuss the future of the TPP, including the possibility of the US returning after having withdrawn before ratification, and how Japan can contribute to the development of the TPP.
