Outlook for Domestic Japanese Politics After the House of Councillors Election (Dr. Yu UCHIYAMA, Professor, University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences)
post date : 2019.07.04
A House of Councillors election will be held this year, with official campaigning to start on July 4 and voting on July 21. With Prime Minister Abe having set the bar for victory as “The ruling coalition winning a majority,” the election is expected to focus on economic policy, measures to deal with the declining birthrate and aging population, and constitutional reform.
Just ahead of the election, the FPCJ has invited Dr. Yu Uchiyama, a professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and an expert in modern Japanese politics, to discuss the House of Councillors election and the outlook for Japanese domestic politics afterwards.
