2017 White Paper on Prevention of Karoshi(Mr. Yasuo Sato, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Labour Standards Bureau, General Affairs Division, Director for Prevention of Karoshi)

post date : 2017.10.11

In Japan, overwork has led to many people losing their lives or suffering from physical and mental health problems, making it a major social issue. The suicide of a new employee at a major Japanese advertising agency two years ago being recognized as work-related due to excessive overtime was a major shock to Japanese society. The Measures for the Prevention of Karoshi, etc. Act, which was passed and put into force in 2014, states that the responsibility for measures to prevent karoshi lies with the national government. The 2017 White Paper on Prevention of Karoshi, covering government measures for prevention, was approved by the Cabinet on October 6th.

The FPCJ has invited Mr. Yasuo Sato, Director for Prevention of Karoshi (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Labour Standards Bureau, General Affairs Division), to discuss the situation in Japan surrounding karoshi and government measures for its prevention.
