Now and Future: Looking at Fukushima
Dr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Chair of the Fukushima Prefecture Reconstruction Committee
Almost two years since the March 11 disaster and the TEPCO Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant accident, places in Fukushima prefecture affected by the accident are now facing new challenges. Some with high radiation want new “temporary towns,” while young people are not returning even to safe places because of anxiety about decontamination.
FPCJ has invited Dr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Professor Emeritus at Fukushima University, to talk about the actual situation of the affected areas and people, and crucial perspectives for the reconstruction of Fukushima.
He taught urban and regional planning at Fukushima University for many years. Since the disaster he has served on the Fukushima Prefecture Reconstruction Committee, and the reconstruction committees of Namie Town and Futaba Town. He also leads the Fukushima Action Research on Decontamination operation (FAIRDO).
Date & Time: March 5 (Tue), 2013, 10:30-12:00
Place: Foreign Press Center/Japan (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)
Language: Japanese (with English interpretation)
Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also attend the briefing as observers (admission free).
