The Great East Japan Earthquake - Psychological support to victims-
Briefer: Dr. Tsuyoshi Akiyama, Director of Neuropsychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine, NTT Medical Center Tokyo
Almost three years since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake; however, many victims are still forced to live in the evacuation sites, and it seems there is a long uphill road ahead for them to get their lives back in order. Under such circumstances, not only trauma caused by the earthquake and tsunami, but also psychological stress such as anxiety for the future due to the protracted problems of the nuclear accident is immeasurable.
FPCJ has invited Dr. Tsuyoshi Akiyama, Director of Neuropsychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine, NTT Medical Center Tokyo, who has been providing psychological care to victims including starting up the “Disaster Response Committee of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology” in the post-quake period. Dr. Akiyama will talk about the current situation, his support action and future tasks.
Dr. Akiyama now serves as chairman of the Disaster Support Committee of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology. He also works in psychological support for cases of stress caused by the radiation in Fukushima as a part of research study by the Ministry of Environment.
We look forward to your attendance.
