Japan's Agriculture can be Growth Industry: Challenge by Rice Producers in Tohoku!!
Briefer: Mr. Toru Wakui, President of RIO East Japan
Japan's rice production is at a turning point; The decision on the new agriculture consolidation policy that declares the abolition of the "gentan" rice production adjustment policy, and TPP, for example. A TPP ministerial meeting will be held in Singapore from February 22.
FPCJ has invited Mr. Toru Wakui, President of RIO East Japan, to talk about RIO's efforts for building a large-scale rice production and supply system and for cutting costs drastically. RIO East Japan was established by six agriculture-related organizations of Akita, Miyagi and Iwate Prefectures in November last year to face a new era for rice production.
Mr. Wakui established Ohgata-village Akitakomachi Producer's Association Co., Ltd. in 1987 and as its president has developed new products including no-wash rice and rice with nutrient function claims. When he established RIO East Japan, he put up a slogan, "Agriculture Restoration started in Tohoku."
