The Seventh Strategic Energy Plan (Ms. Yukari Takamura, Professor, Institute for Future Initiatives, The University of Tokyo)

post date : 2025.03.04

On February 18, the Cabinet approved the Seventh Strategic Energy Plan, which indicates the direction of Japan’s energy policy, revised Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures including 2035 and 2040 climate targets, and the GX 2040 Vision, a national strategy to realize green transformation. Japan’s energy situation has changed significantly since the Sixth Strategic Energy Plan was formulated in October 2021. In light of these changes, the government has made a new plan to achieve a stable energy supply and create a carbon neutral society by making maximum use of renewable energy and nuclear power.

The FPCJ has invited international and environmental law expert Ms. Yukari Takamura, a professor at the Institute for Future Initiatives, the University of Tokyo and a member of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry Advisory Committee for Natural Resources and Energy which debated the Seventh Strategic Energy Plan, to discuss the plan, its key points and challenges for Japan's achieving carbon neutrality.

Please note that you cannot physically attend this briefing, as it will be a Zoom webinar.

Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).
