Nagasaki Stadium City As a Key for Stimulating the Economy and Developing the City(Mr. Shiro Suzuki, Mayor of Nagasaki/Mr. Yutaka Orime, Executive Officer, Regional Creation Nagasaki )

post date : 2024.09.19

With population decline due to low birthrate and aging population, large numbers of young people and households raising children have been leaving Nagasaki City, with it ranking third among cities in Japan for net migration loss. In order to continue being a prosperous, easy-to-live, and sustainable city in the future, Nagasaki City has implemented various projects, including the redevelopment of the area around JR Nagasaki Station. On October 14, Nagasaki Stadium City, a complex with its operation led by local companies centered around a soccer stadium, is planned to open as the culmination of a major project to revitalize the area based around a sports facility. Nagasaki City is said to be entering a period of change that is seen only once in a hundred years.

The FPCJ has invited Mr. Shiro Suzuki, the mayor of Nagasaki, who is leading one of the pioneering community revitalization projects among Japanese municipalities, along with Mr. Yutaka Orime, executive officer of Regional Creation Nagasaki, the company operating Nagasaki Stadium City, to discuss making Nagasaki Stadium City the key for stimulating the local economy and developing the city.

Mr. Suzuki will discuss regional issues facing the city, and city development plans based around Nagasaki Stadium City, while Mr. Orime will discuss what role Nagasaki Stadium City will play in contributing to the local community development, and what impact it is expected to have.

Please note that you cannot physically attend this briefing, as it will be a Zoom webinar.

FPCJ supporting members and embassy representatives may also participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).
