Report (Press Briefing): Japanese Politics after the Lower House General Election (December 20, 2012)

post date : 2013.08.21

FPCJ invited Mr. Shiro Tazaki, Jiji Press News Commentator, to talk about Japanese politics after the Lower House general election.

Mr. Tazaki said that the clear-cut victory of the LDP in the election did not simply mean voters’ overwhelming support for the party. The victory really meant, he said, that the voters said “NO” to the DPJ politics, that the so-called “third force” parties competed with each other in many election districts and that the DPJ faced the election suffering from internal conflicts. Mr. Tazaki also forecasted domestic and foreign policies of the new Abe administration, and the Upper House regular election to take place in July next year.

A total of 33 people attended this briefing. In the Q&A session various issues came up, including the LDP’s policy related to renewable energy, the new administration’s attitude toward Japan-China relations, and Mr. Tazaki’s evaluation of Mr. Toru Hashimoto, Acting Representative of the Japan Restoration Party.
