Video Report: Wakayama Press Tour “Kumano Sanzan, Sacred World Heritage Site, Prepared to Live with Nature” (October 16-17, 2012)

Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka, Wakayama Prefecture
“The spirit of Japan is 'tolerance'. The broad-minded spirit is embodied most typically in Kumano’s way of thinking.”

Mr. Tomoji Michiue, boatman
“Naturally, scared of water. Kind of frightened by Nature. We are used to floods here, this was the third time for me. Super typhoons that directly hit this region were the 1934 Muroto Typhoon and 1959 Vera. We didn’t expect that many regions would be flooded in this time (Talas, 2011). To think back, we underestimated it.”

Mayor Shinichi Teramoto, Nachi-Katsuura City
“Here in Kumano, you can get peace of mind.
If foreign travelers visit here with this knowledge: pilgrims come here in search of healing and salvation. By looking at the region in this way, I am sure they will have great impression.”
