As part of the 2024-2025 FPCJ Fellowship Program, Ms. Paulina Smolinski, the White House Producer/Reporter at CBS News, visited Japan from March 9 to 15, 2025.
CBS News is the news division of CBS, one of the three largest broadcasting networks in the US. Their headquarters is located in New York, with bureaus located around the world. Having started as a radio station, CBS has had a major influence on public opinion and culture in the US since beginning TV broadcasting in 1941.
While in Japan, Ms. Smolinski covered the Japan-US alliance and security, interviewing officials with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, as well as experts.
After the program, Ms. Smolinski commented that being able to do reporting in Japan provided an objective perspective of the influence of the White House, and was very valuable to her.
