Fellowship Program: AP / GMA News Online Journalist Michaela Del Callar

As part of the 2024-2025 FPCJ Fellowship Program, Ms. Michaela Del Callar, a journalist who contributes to the Associated Press (AP) and GMA News Online, visited Japan from January 19 to 25, 2025.
The AP is a leading US news agency. GMA News Online is an English online news media organization operated by the GMA Network, a major integrated media group in the Philippines which owns a network of 106 TV stations and 21 radio stations throughout the country.
While in Japan, Ms. Del Callar covered topics including security, diplomacy, and Japan-Philippines trade, interviewing experts, officials with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and people on the street.
After the program, Ms. Del Callar commented that this was the first time she participated in a solo fellowship program, as opposed to a group one, and was very satisfied with being able to report on issues that interested her. She also said it was an extremely valuable opportunity to experience what Japan is like, such as by traveling on Japanese public transportation.
