Video Report: Lifting Ban on Integrated Resorts Including Casinos (Dr. Ichiro Tanioka, President of Osaka University of Commerce)
post date : 2017.04.14
In December 2016, a bill was passed calling for the government to prepare for the development of integrated resorts including casinos. Within a year, an IR implementation bill will be created with detailed regulations. The debate over these specific regulations will include not only the economic merits of IRs, but also other factors such as measures to deal with gambling addiction and compliancy with criminal laws on gambling. The Osaka University of Commerce is a pioneer in casino research and home to the first graduate school in Japan to establish a course on IR management.
The FPCJ invited the university’s president, Dr. Ichiro Tanioka, to discuss the future of the legalization of IRs including casinos in Japan, and the issues involved.
The briefing had a total of 34 participants, including 15 journalists from Hong Kong, France, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain and USA.
