The FPCJ invited Dr. Yasuaki Chijiwa, chief of the International Conflict Division of the Center for Military History of the National Institute for Defense Studies, to discuss the topic “Will the US Defend Japan? The History of and Outlook for the Japan-US Alliance.” He will speak from a historical perspective on the formation and changes to the Japan-US security structure from the postwar period to the present, the current state of the Japan-US alliance as it changes under the second Trump administration, and what direction should be taken going forward for Japan’s security policy.
