Having been designated as the 102nd prime minister of Japan, on October 1 Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a press conference after forming his cabinet, at which he announced the House of Representatives would be dissolved on October 9, with official campaigning to begin on October 15 for a general election on October 27. All eyes are on the upcoming general election and its impact on the future of Japanese democracy.
Ahead of the election, the FPCJ invited Dr. Izuru Makihara, a professor at the University of Tokyo Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology and an expert in politics and public administration, to discuss the House of Representatives election—The Prospect of Political Reform.
The briefing was attended by many journalists both in Japan and overseas.
