Video Report: Results of the Summit of the Future 2024(Ms. Kaoru Nemoto, Director, United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo; Mr. Takuma Kajita, Director, United Nations Planning and Administration Division, Foreign Policy Bureau, MOFA)

post date : 2024.10.03

On September 22 and 23, the Summit of the Future was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to discuss international cooperation on global issues, and the Pact for the Future was adopted as its outcome. As conflicts continue in the Middle East and Ukraine and other regions and countries, the document mentions strengthened international cooperation and Security Council reform, as well as providing developing countries with the funds necessary to achieve the SDGs and setting the objective of closing digital divides. While Secretary-General António Guterres called for the international community to work together on shared issues such as climate change, differing levels of enthusiasm toward this cooperation have also been noted.

The FPCJ has invited Ms. Kaoru Nemoto, Director of the United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo, and Mr. Takuma Kajita, Director of the United Nations Planning and Administration Division of the Foreign Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, to discuss the results of the Summit of the Future, including the key points that were debated at the Summit and the roles and commitments of the UN and Japan in solving issues facing the international community.
