Video Report:The Relationship Between Climate Change and Cherry Blossoms, Mr. Daisuke Sasano , Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)

post date : 2024.03.12

Cherry blossoms, the national flower of Japan, have long been welcomed as a sign of spring, and in recent years foreign tourists have also arranged to visit during the cherry blossom season to partake in viewing the blossoms along with Japanese locals. However, cherry blossoms have been blooming earlier over the long term, and global warming is thought to be the cause.

The FPCJ invited Mr. Daisuke Sasano, a climate risk management officer at the JMA's Office of Climate Change, to discuss the current state of and future predictions for global warming in Japan, as well as introducing data from years of observation by the JMA of cherry blossoms and explaining how it is related to global warming.

The briefing was attended by journalists from UK, Spain, Belgium, France, Russia, Singapore, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US.
