Video Report: Japan’s Energy Strategy-Achieving Carbon Neutrality and Enhancing Energy Security (Mr. Tatsuya Terazawa, Chairman and CEO, The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan)

post date : 2023.07.04

The trend toward carbon neutrality in response to climate change is accelerating. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the Global South increasing its presence, global geopolitics are becoming more complex, and global cooperation towards carbon neutrality becoming more difficult. The importance of energy security is also growing in Japan, with a shift to carbon neutrality that is both realistic and forward-thinking desired. The G7 Hiroshima Leaders' Communiqué released at the recent G7 Hiroshima Summit included mentions of accelerating transitions to clean energy and the necessity of phasing out dependency on Russian energy, both urgent issues.

The FPCJ has invited Mr. Tatsuya Terazawa, the chairman and CEO of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (former Vice-Minister for International Affairs) to discuss what issues Japan faces in simultaneously achieving carbon neutrality and energy security, and what steps can be taken to solve them.

The briefing was attended by journalists from Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and US.
