post date : 2016.02.24
Nearly five years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. In Fukushima Prefecture, which suffered heavily from this nuclear disaster, decontamination efforts and monitoring of radiation levels are continuing, and projects to monitor the physical and mental health of residents over the long term have also been implemented. One such project is the Fukushima Health Management Survey at Fukushima Medical University, which studies the physical and mental health effects of radiation. The survey started in June 2011, three months after the accident, at the request of the Fukushima prefectural government.
The FPCJ invited two doctors from Fukushima Medical University involved in carrying out this health survey to speak about the results of the survey so far, future issues, and the role Fukushima Medical University is expected to play.
The briefing had a total of 55 participants, including 38 journalists from France, Germany, South Korea, USA, etc., and 7 embassy representatives.
