60th Anniversary of Normalization of Japan-South Korea Diplomatic Relations: Present and Future of Japan-South Korean Relations (Dr. Tadashi Kimiya, Former Professor, Project Researcher, University of Tokyo)
post date : 2025.04.23
2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea. With the global situation in turmoil due to concerns over a recession caused by US President Trump’s tariffs, increasing tensions between China and Taiwan, and military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, Japan-South Korean relations are growing increasingly important. As former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was removed from office, a presidential election is planned for June 3 in South Korea, and maintaining improved Japan-South Korean relations and building connections with the presidential candidates are urgent issues.
The FPCJ has invited Dr. Tadashi Kimiya, a Former Professor, Project Researcher at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and an expert in the Korean Peninsula and South Korean politics and diplomacy, to discuss the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, including the current state of and future outlook for Japan-South Korean relations.
Please note that you cannot physically attend this briefing, as it will be a Zoom webinar.
Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).
