Nerima Daikon:
Nerima Daikon is considered to having started to be grown during Edo-period. At that time, Nerima being located near Edo as an outlying village, had a role of providing foods to the people living in Edo city. Nerima Daikon was well spread and appropriate for being dried or pickled for eating, however, the crop production decreased and was little harvested, due to the drought and epidemic in the Showa era including the western change in eating habits.
In order to revive the radish consumption, Nerima City started the projects for developing Nerima Daikon in cooperation with the producers and JA Tokyo Aoba in 1989, which contributed to the significant number of production from about 5,500 in 1989 to about 14,100 in 2018.
