ikasu’s upcycled art: Breathing new value and stories into retired kimonos

In many Japanese households, numerous kimono and obi that have fulfilled their roles lie unused. However, due to fewer opportunities to wear them and the difficulty of storage, they are often discarded rather than passed down to the next generation.
ikasu utilizes these antique kimonos and obi, and furniture as materials. Respecting the history and memories held within each piece, we reconstruct them into contemporary textile art. By enhancing the inherent beauty of the materials and elevating them into works that complement modern spaces, we connect Japanese culture and stories to the future.
