・The Technology Catalog Ver. 4.0 for the Asia-Monsoon region, in line with Japan’s Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, MIDORI, was published on the JIRCAS website on October 1, 2025.
・The new version updates two existing technologies and adds four new ones, expanding the total to 44 technologies.
・By aligning with the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, which includes the catalog as Annex 3, it is expected to further accelerate sustainable food systems development across ASEAN countries.

Outline
The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) has officially released the Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region Ver. 4.0 on October 1, 2025, through its website. The catalog aims to both enhance production potential and ensure environmental sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon region.

The newly released Version 4.0 includes updates to two existing technologies—such as the improved method for estimating carbon sequestration through biochar, which now has expanded applicability thanks to research advances—and introduces four new technologies, bringing the total number to 44. These technologies, developed in Japan or through international research collaborations, were featured in Annex 3 of the revised ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan adopted at the Second Meeting of the ASEAN-Japan Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry (2nd AJMAF) on October 2, 2025. They are expected to contribute to building resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems across the region.

Since its initial publication, the number of participating institutions in the Technology Catalog has steadily grown. From Version 3.0 onward, contributors have included five national research and development agencies and seven universities. The catalog has been made accessible internationally through the websites of the the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the ASEAN Secretariat.

In response to increasing global interest in high-impact fields such as carbon sequestration through biochar, JIRCAS has also produced thematic reports that provide deeper insight into the background, mechanisms, challenges, and prospects of individual technologies. These reports, published as part of the Green Asia Report Series, are available on the JIRCAS website. The series supports evidence-based policymaking and promotes sustainable agricultural innovation in the Asia-Monsoon region.

Both the Technology Catalog and the Green Asia Report Series have been developed under the JIRCAS Green Asia Project, aligning with Japan’s Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, MIDORI. Version 4.0 of the catalog is expected to serve a wide range of stakeholders—including government officials, researchers, extension officers, producers, and private sector actors—particularly across ASEAN and other countries in the Asia-Monsoon region. Through continued dissemination of technical knowledge, JIRCAS reaffirms its commitment to supporting resilient and sustainable food systems worldwide.
