The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture) will hold "The International Conference on Open Access to Culture 2024" from October 29 to November 3, 2024 at the Tokyo International Forum. As of today, the details of all programs in English have been published on the official website, and the application period for participation has begun.
The conference is one of the legacies of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and serves to build networks between a wide range of people who are active around the world. It also sends out the message about advanced initiatives, in view of promoting the realization of coexistence in society through arts and culture.
The conference is comprised of four major elements: the Conference itself involving discussions on the theme of "culture and home" from a broad range of international perspectives; the Showcase program with artwork exhibitions from artists in Japan and abroad as well as workshops and talks; the Networking program that promotes exchange between participants and visitors; and the Communications Lab that explores different methods of communication around the world. In view of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics* to be held next year, the conference will also place focus on Deaf culture and provide a diverse range of programs that anyone can join.
The conference theme is "Culture and Home—New future opened by art." All of us need a "home (place to belong)" within the increasing diversity and complexity of modern society. We believe that having a "home (safe and secure place)" is one aspect of "well-being," and we will hold discussions on this topic with participants from around the world.
*An international multi-sport event for Deaf athletes that will be held in Japan for the first time in 2025.

[Concept of the Main Visual]
This graphic is designed in consideration of diversity in color vision, so that it can convey information to as many people as possible. The design for the main graphic features minute adjustments in hues to express the broad range of how people see and sense things. The main graphic represents the philosophy of Creative Well-being Tokyo—"open access to culture"—with an aim to share in the rich diversity of expression with all its fluctuations rather than to make adjustments to achieve ease of understanding for any one individual. This main graphic has passed color universal design (CUD) verification.
[Creative Well-being Tokyo]
By harnessing the power of the arts and culture and better utilizing resources available at cultural facilities, this initiative improves accessibility for senior visitors, people with disabilities, non-Japanese, and young children, and expands experiences of appreciating, creating, and presenting the arts. Creative Well-being Tokyo is to build a better infrastructure for visitors with various special needs to better appreciate the arts and participate in public programs.
