KYOTO: From October 10 th (Wed) to October 26 th (Sun) 2025 at the Minamiza Theatre in Kyoto, a special production starring Ichikawa Danjūrō will be staged. In the Matinee, a full-
length performance of “Mimasu Sendai Hagi” (‘The Bush-Clover of Sendai’, featuring Danjūrō) will be performed. Danjūrō will play 7 roles, performing the almost illusionary quick costume changing technique of kabuki. The story is based on the family squabble of the Date clan that actually happened in the Edo period. The play blends several of kabuki’s main attractions, such as its stylistic beauty, the exaggerated ‘aragoto‘ acting style, and the portrayal of both good and evil—into a single piece. Enjoy the highlights of this condensed
kabuki masterpiece.
